WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – December 15,

behind us so that we can make a difference in the futures of our
neighborhood children,” Cartwright continued.
The West Palm 100, who has long been a
partner with The Children’s Coalition in helping to raise funds and
awareness, had a team of volunteers on site helping with painting
and other handy work one Saturday in September. The group will also

bringing The Children’s Coalition the additional financial
assistance needed for TCCI to resume in-house programming.

Know a Vet? Help Us Document
Their Story!
December 4, 2010
For
those who aren’t familiar with TCCI programming, we place emphasis
on multimedia education and training for children using a variety of
mediums. We’ve been very grateful and honored to be able to secure
grants that allow us to bring art interaction, children, and others
together in order to share stories, skills, and build confidence in
our kids. One of our most successful programs to date in achieving
our goals has been the Veteran’s History Project. Passed by Congress
a few years ago and coordinated in part by the American Folklife
Center and the Library of Congress, the mission of the VHP is to
film, document, and preserve the stories of American veteran’s,
whether they’ve actively served in a war or not, their stories. To
learn more about the Veteran’s History Project, take a look at our
services page. Veterans are welcome to call and schedule an
appointment to come in and be interviewed about their service in any
division of the US military and experience during peacetime or war,
whether present day or past service/affiliation. Spouse’s, children
and relatives are also encouraged to participate and are warmly
welcomed. Interviews must be at least 30 to 60 minutes in length.
The questions and scripts, as well as the Biographical Data Form and
the Veteran’s Release Form can be found online at the Library of
Congress website; click here. There is also a Veterans History
Project Brochure that can be accessed on the same web page. After
each interview, every veteran can expect a copy of his or her
interview. Additionally, another copy is forwarded to t he Library
of Congress for posterity and preservation. Please contact us to set
up an appointment as soon as possible. The Library of Congress is
interested in your experiences and our children are ready to
document your story and give you an experience you won’t soon
forget! If you are a veteran or know a veteran who is interested in
learning more about this wonderful program, please simply email
Carlton Cartwright at ccartwright at tccipbc dot org and he will get
back to you ASAP. Or feel free to call Carlton directly at
561-832-3797 (TCCI Office) or 561-719-8106 (Cell).
Thank so much for your service and your
support!

The South Florida Kids
Consignment Donates Again to TCCI
November 21, 2010
About a year and a half ago, I partnered
up with a friend of mine who started the South Florida Kids
Consignment, a 1-weekend long children’s consignment event. The
first SFKC event I ever walked into was being held at the South
Florida Fairgrounds, was on it’s fourth day, had garnered local
media attentions, hundreds of bargain shoppers and sellers with
thousands of toys, and handfuls of teams and volunteers that came
together to make it all happen.
I was picking up toys and clothes for The
Children’s Coalition, and it was the middle of what felt like the
hottest spring day of 2009. I brought my pickup truck because I
thought the bed would be easy to load and unload. I had no idea I
would be driving off with toys, shoes, clothes, stuffed animals,
baby necessities, and much, much more filling completely the cab and
the bed of the truck – twice.

The owners of the SFKC gave me more than I
thought I could ever handle, and even after 2 truck loads full there
was still plenty of donations for 2 or 3 other charities, Salvation
Army included, who showed up with 20′ moving trucks to haul away
what was left. I was floored – thousands of toys and clothes would
be donated thanks to the owners of the unsold clothes and toys and
the SFKC’s thoughtful outreach for community service programs and
organizations.
That week, we handed out toys and clothes
for boys, girls, and teenagers to the neglected people and
neighborhoods of downtown West Palm Beach. We had both my truck and
Carlton’s TCCI van packed with donations as we navigated the
desolate streets. Once we settled in a particular area just off
Tamarind, Children and parents began flocking the truck, coming from
all corners. Within 15 minutes, the piles of donation that I
initially figured would take hours to distribute was gone and into
the hands of some very deserving families.
It was one of the most rewarding
experiences I’ve ever been blessed to have. And lucky me; I get to
do it again this year. Today I’ll be traveling down to Deerfield
Beach to see my old SFKC friends again – it’s the last day of this
weekend’s Broward County event. I’m looking forward to brining
another truckload of toys to the neighborhoods of West Palm Beach –
and bag some smiles in return!
Take a look at the South Florida Kids
Consignment website – the next Palm Beach County event, the owners
told me, should be around early to mid-February.

Children’s Coalition, Inc.

TCCI and the West Palm Beach
100 Paint The New Office
August 21, 2010
As The Children’s Coalition management,
volunteers, supporters, and children finish up the move into the
organizations new offices, we got a little help from our friends at
the West Palm 100, a local social and civic organization comprised
of your professionals.
The new facility will house TCCI’s
administrative offices and multimedia labs designed specifically for
the programming our organization offers to under -privileged
children ages 6 to 18. The new address is 907 North Dixie Highway,
West Palm Beach 33401, located 10 blocks northeast of our old
location at 529 Clematis Street, in the heart of downtown.
The offices were decrepit before one of
our board members, along with a few other key players, build out the
walls, electricity, and installed key infrastructure that was needed
after the property was neglected for years. Finally, we were ready
for the finishing touch: freshly painted walls.
The paint was donated by Home Depot and
some of the members from the West Palm 100. So one Saturday morning,
this wonderful group of volunteers donated their time to paint 7
rooms in under 5 hours. There were 15+ hot, sweating, dirty, and
paint-sopped friends laying down two coats, everyone working
together towards the same goal: to get to the beach.
The next week, those who participated in
the paint job and a few others who couldn’t make it met at John Bull
in West Palm Beach for happy hour to celebrate our service.
The management and children who are served
by TCCI are extremely grateful for the gift of time and energy these
young individuals put forward to a passionate that has kept our
community and this organization humming for 16 years: service.
