The Veteran’s History Project
The Veterans History Project (VHP) of the
American Folklife Center collects, preserves, and makes accessible
the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future
generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand
the realities of war.
The VHP partners disadvantaged youth with
veterans and their families to preserve digitally their experiences
during wartime and its aftermath of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The Children’s Coalition Inc. (TCCI) acts
as a conduit to bring these two segments of our population, at-risk
youth and adult veterans, together so they can work in unison to
collect these valuable histories.
Beyond the obvious impact of conveying the
experiences of veterans who have served in the armed forces of the
United States, the project connects youth with adults giving the
adults the opportunity to mentor with teens that are in need of
guidance.
TCCI has adopted the VHP wholeheartedly.
TCCI has given our students opportunities to cross color lines and
travel places they had never been. They have been given the
educational opportunities that go hand in hand with acquiring skills
related to multimedia and the arts including digital videography,
editing and digital still photography.

History Project, follow this link to the Library of Congress’s
